OBN Digital BioTuesday: An Insight into the Role of Biobanks in Life Sciences R&D Innovation
3rd November
Tissue Solutions is delighted to be taking part in this OBN BioTuesday Digital event.
The event will discuss the role of biobanks in life sciences R&D and how they are a critical resource in medical and scientific research and play a crucial role in facilitating access to human tissue and biomaterials to help scientists understand human health and illnesses.
The event will address the following topics:
- An insight into the work of UK Biobank, the national and international resource funded by the MRC and the Wellcome Trust
- The role of biobanks during the COVID-19 pandemic, from both an epidemiology and treatment perspective
- The role of the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) Partner, in supporting collaboration in the UK clinical research environment
- The role of the Health Research Authority and the Research Ethics Committees in ensuring the ethical and regulatory compliance of biobanks in the UK, particularly around consent, handling, and future access to samples
- Advice for researchers planning to work with a biobank, what ethical approval they may need and what barriers they may face?
- Insight into virtual biobanks, developed to assist investigators in locating biospecimens for testing and data mining from multiple biobanks in dispersed locations
- The role that the NHS play in recruiting patients to join study cohorts, and the benefit this offers to UK Biobanks
Our CEO, Morag McFarlane and Client Services Director, Fiona MacKenzie will be presenting a case study on our work at Tissue Solutions, with a focus on our adherence to the highest possible ethical standards.
